Scientific Translation You Can Rely On
Scientific translation starts from one principle: academic work depends on precision. A research paper, a thesis or a transcript is read by examiners, reviewers and admissions officers who expect every term, figure and reference to mean exactly what the author intended. A loose translation can weaken an argument, change a result or raise questions about a document that took years to earn.
Our scientific translation team transfers facts and findings without additions, omissions or distortion. We keep the terminology of the field, the structure of the original and the logic of each argument, and a second translator checks the result before it is delivered.

Accurate terminology
Technical and scientific terms are translated with the equivalents used in the field, and kept consistent across the whole document.
Faithful to the author
Results, figures, quotations and references are transferred exactly, so the work keeps its credibility and gives proper credit to original sources.
Confidential handling
Unpublished research and personal academic records are handled with professional discretion from start to finish.
What Is Scientific Translation?
Scientific translation is the translation of academic and research texts, such as studies, articles, theses and technical reports, from one language into another. It differs from general translation because it must preserve the exact meaning of concepts, data and conclusions. A general translator may rephrase freely; a scientific translator cannot.
Academic translation follows the same principle. Transcripts, degree certificates and admission documents must match the original exactly, because universities and official bodies compare them line by line. Names, grades, credit hours and dates are copied precisely, and stamps and signatures are translated as part of the document.
Literary translation asks for a different skill. Here the translator must carry the voice, rhythm and cultural meaning of the original into the target language, while staying faithful to what the author wrote. We treat literary work and scientific translation with the same care, but we approach each with the method it needs.

Scientific Translation Across Disciplines
Every field has its own vocabulary, conventions and style of argument. Scientific translation in medicine reads differently from scientific translation in engineering or economics, and the translator has to respect those differences.
- Health and medical sciences. Clinical studies, research articles and reports, translated with accepted medical terminology and exact values.
- Engineering and technology. Research, technical reports and project studies, with units, formulas and specifications transferred precisely.
- Environmental and earth sciences. Studies on water, climate, geology and the environment, where measurements and locations must match the original.
- Business, economics and management. Research and case studies with financial terms, statistics and models translated consistently.
- Education and social sciences. Studies, surveys and questionnaires, where the wording of each question affects how results can be compared.

Arabic and English Scientific Translation
Most of the scientific translation we handle is between Arabic and English. English is the main language of international journals, while Arabic is the language of many universities, ministries and readers in Oman and the region.
Each direction has its own challenges. When translating into Arabic, some modern scientific terms have more than one Arabic equivalent, so we choose the term most widely used in the field and, where helpful, keep the English term in brackets the first time it appears. When translating into English, we follow the conventions of academic English, such as clear sentence structure and consistent use of tense, so the text reads naturally to international reviewers.
In both directions, the goal is the same: a scientific translation that a specialist can read as if it had been written in that language from the start.
Tables, Figures and References
Research documents are more than running text. Tables, charts, equations and reference lists carry much of the meaning, and they need the same care as the main text.
In every scientific translation, we translate table headings and figure captions, keep numbers and units exactly as they appear, and leave equations, chemical formulas and software names unchanged. Reference lists can be left in their original language, as most journals prefer, or translated when your university asks for it. Tell us which you need when you send your file.
Translating Research for International Publication
Researchers in Oman often want to publish their work in international journals, most of which publish in English. A research paper translation, like any scientific translation, must read naturally to specialist reviewers while staying faithful to the original study.
We translate the full paper, including the abstract, keywords, tables, figure captions and reference list where needed. We keep the structure of the original, so the introduction, methods, results and discussion remain clearly organised. Units, statistical values and technical terms are transferred exactly as they appear.
Journals also have their own formatting and style requirements. If you share the journal’s author guidelines with us, we will follow its terminology preferences and spelling conventions in the translation. The decision to publish, however, always rests with the journal and its reviewers.
Thesis and Dissertation Translation
A thesis is long, technical and consistent by design, so its scientific translation must be consistent too. When we translate a thesis or dissertation, we first agree on the translation of key terms and recurring expressions, then apply them throughout every chapter, so the same concept is never translated in two different ways.
We can translate a full thesis, selected chapters, an abstract or a research proposal. If you are submitting the translation to a university or an examination committee, tell us their requirements, such as the language, format or need for a certified copy, so we can prepare it accordingly.
For long documents, we agree on a delivery plan before starting and can deliver chapter by chapter, so you can review the work as it progresses.
Academic Records for Study Abroad and Recognition of Qualifications
Students applying for scholarships or postgraduate programmes abroad usually need their academic records translated, and those translations often need to be certified. The same applies to graduates who need a qualification issued abroad to be recognised in Oman. Information about the recognition of qualifications in Oman is available from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
In these cases, accuracy is not enough on its own: the receiving institution also needs to know who stands behind the translation. Our certified academic translations carry our office stamp and are attached to a copy of the original, so universities, ministries and embassies can rely on them.
We pay particular attention to names, which must match the passport, and to grades, credit hours and dates, which must match the original exactly.
Literary Translation
Literary translation is where translation becomes closest to writing. A good literary translation does not only say what the original says; it sounds the way the original sounds. The translator has to understand the author’s voice, the cultural references behind the words and the effect the text is meant to have on its reader, then recreate that effect in the target language.
For this reason, literary work needs translators with strong command of both languages and real sensitivity to style. Idioms, wordplay and culturally specific expressions are rendered with equivalents that work for the new reader, rather than translated word by word.
Literary and scientific translation also share a wider purpose. They make ideas, research and stories available across languages, and they support the exchange of knowledge and culture between peoples.

Risks of an Inaccurate Academic Translation
Rejected applications
Universities and official bodies can refuse academic records that are incomplete, inaccurate or not certified when certification is required.
Weakened research
Mistranslated terms, results or arguments can make a paper unclear to reviewers and undermine its credibility.
Lost time
A translation that has to be redone can push a submission past an application or publication deadline.

Tips Before You Order a Scientific Translation
- Share the guidelines. Journal author guidelines or university requirements save time and avoid later changes.
- Send the final version. Translating a draft that changes later means paying to translate the changes again.
- Mark what should stay unchanged. Names of instruments, software, chemical formulas or quotations in their original language can be kept as they are.
- Allow time for long documents. The scientific translation of theses and long papers needs more time for consistent terminology and review.
